New Features on Shop OnRez

Friday, August 31st, 2007

We just released a number of new features for Shop OnRez. Many of these come from user requests. Thanks for the feedback, and please keep it coming!

  • Email notifications for sales. Get notifications emailed on every sale, have a daily batch digest emailed to you, or turn off notifications completely (default). Change your settings in your user preferences.
  • RSS feeds. A number of feeds are available including all new items, new freebies, newest items for a category, and the latest items from individual sellers. Most links are available at http://shop.onrez.com/feed. You can subscribe to seller feeds from their seller page by clicking on the RSS button. See Community OnRez’s storefront for an example.
  • Linkable tags. The tags in an item’s description now link to more items with the same tag.
  • Easier editing navigation. Sellers can click the “Edit” link under their item’s image to quickly return to the dropbox editing page for that item.

Useful Freebies for Sellers

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Community OnRez has opened up a storefront where you can pick up some useful tools if you run a business in Second Life, or want to get started in business in Second Life.

Unpacking Scripts

Since most people box up their products before selling them on Shop OnRez, we wanted to give out some free “unpacking” scripts. Rather than forcing customers to manually drag items into their inventory, these scripts auto-create a folder in your customer’s inventory, and then automatically move the items into that folder. You have two choices: one of the scripts triggers upon rez [link], the other upon touch [link]. All you have to do is drag a copy of the script into your product box/package.

Prefab Starter Stores

For those of you who are looking for a compact storefront to use in-world, we have also put out two free low-prim storefronts which you are welcome to modify. By the way, if you are selling products in world, I do hope you check out our in-world vendors. You can use them to sell on the Web and in-world and thus manage your data, your pricing, and your sales reports from one place. You can also turn on product searching for your storefront, which can help your customers find what they want quickly rather than getting confused and possibly leaving empty-handed. The scripted vendors are simple and easy!

You can click on either image below if you are interested in the freebie:

In World Signs

If you want to link people in-world to your OnRez storefront, we have created this scripted sign that will point customers to the right spot. This can be particularly useful if you sell no-transfer items, because your customers can gift your items to other people extremely easily on Shop OnRez.

We’re dedicated to making virtual commerce easier for both shoppers and sellers. Thank you for using OnRez!

Thoughts for SL Entrepreneurs

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I hope some of you were able to tune into the SLCC panel on Second Life entrepreneurship I moderated on Sunday morning — we had 4 great panelists with Guni Graef from Anshe Chung Studios, Haver Cole, Shaun Altman and Simone Stern. For those of you who could not attend, Virtual World News was kind enough to put up their notes from the panel at this link.

In the wake of this article from ABC News on making money in Second Life, I also jotted down some notes for SL entrepreneurs on my primary blog Out to Pasture [link].

If you are a Second Life entrepreneur, mark down September 6th, noon Pacific Time, and join us at OnRez island’s Event Center for the first “First Thursday” gathering for SL entrepreneurs to network and share tips and challenges.  (CORRECTION: moving event to Thursdays, since Simone correctly pointed out that I’m an idiot for choosing Wednesdays… good old update day!)

Digi Vox of the OnRez team has been doing makeovers of some newer Electric Sheep avatars, doing all of her shopping on the OnRez service. You can find the results of her first three shopping trips on her blog [link].

No In-World Support this Week

Due to traveling, I won’t be available to help in-world this week. Please report any problems you’re experiencing through the support portal at http://support.onrez.com. Thanks!

SL Woodstock

Woodstock

OnRez is a proud sponsor of the SL Woodstock event, a live music concert featuring a dozen bands and musicians. The action happens August 16th through the 18th. Please visit slwoodstock.com for more information including the performance schedule.

Below are links to some of the musicians’ OnRez storefronts, where you can find band t-shirts, posters, and more–some for free! Check them out:

Spence Wilder
Foxyflwr Cure
Rich DeSoto

Grab an OnRez Woodstock T-shirt here for free.

And let’s not forget the Woodstock VW bus!

Be sure to stop by the Mudstock Flea Market while you’re there, and browse a selection of music and hippie themed products being sold or given away, located at Nowhereville (177, 190).

Would you like OnRez support for your next big event? If so, send an IM in-world to Jade Lily. I’d like to hear about your plans! Thanks. :)

Redeliver Copy/No-transfer Items

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Purchase History

When we went live with OnRez, there were a number of features that were present in SLBoutique that we couldn’t get to in time for our launch deadline. One of these features is back. You can now redeliver any copy/no-transfer items that you purchased by clicking a link in your purchase history next to the name of the item. This is useful if you accidentally delete an item you purchased, or if for some reason, SL eats it.

Note to sellers: double-check that your permissions are properly set when you load your items. If an item is set to copy/no-transfer by mistake, a buyer will be able to have the item delivered as many times as he likes.

Afternoon Support Canceled

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Due to the grid being down, OnRez support is canceled this afternoon. You can still use the support portal to submit trouble tickets at http://support.onrez.com. See you tomorrow!
