Improving Seller Reports

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

When we launched Shop OnRez we put up a base level of reports to help sellers track sales. Under the Transactions menu you can see your detailed sales history, which includes delivery information and time/date stamps. Under the Seller Tools menu, we have more reports that cover top sellers, breakdowns of Web versus in-world OnRez vendor sales, etc.

We’ve never been satisfied with these, but we knew we had to defer work on them. That time has come. We are thinking about design and reaching out for feedback, and I wanted to invite any of our sellers to get requests and ideas over to us. You can comment here, send me an email at forseti (dot) svarog @ gmail (dot) com or feel free to IM Forseti Svarog in-world.

If we do our job right, we’ll make it much easier for you to run your Second Life business, and focus on things that really matter!

No In-World Support This Afternoon (Updated)

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Update: (9/26/07) I had a late start and just arrived this morning. Need rest. I’ll pick up support this afternoon. Thanks for your patience.

I’m moving to New York! Unfortunately, therefore, I’m going to be driving a U-Haul up I-95 when I would otherwise be in-world doing support. Please send any requests in via the support portal, and I’ll answer them as soon as I’m able. In-world support will resume tomorrow morning afternoon. Thanks!

SL Entrepreneurs Gather 10/4/2007: Daniel Terdiman Guest-of-Honor

Monday, September 24th, 2007

The next SL Entrepreneurs Gather is happening on the first Thursday of October (i.e. October 4th) at noon PT at the OnRez Event Center. We are lucky enough to have Daniel Terdiman join us as a guest-of-honor. Daniel has just finished writing a book on entrepreneurship in Second Life, which should be coming out in early November. During this Gather, we’ll have a chance to ask him questions about his findings and get an early glimpse into his ideas for best practices.

Daniel Terdiman is a senior writer with CNET News.com who has been covering Second Life since 2003, first for Wired and now for CNET. He writes about the culture of technology, with a special focus on virtual worlds. All told, he has been a professional journalist for 12 years, having written and reported for The New York Times, Time magazine, Wired magazine and Wired News, and many others, and he has a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. His book, “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Second Life: Making Money in the Metaverse,” will be published in November by Wiley.

Synopsis: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Second Life will give readers an in-depth look at businesses and other economic opportunities in Second Life, explain the business operations of each, and show readers how to identify, develop, launch, and profit from their own business. Daniel has started a blog for the book here.

Because this will be text-based (thus no stream to syndicate), we’ll move the location slightly downhill from the OnRez Event Center to the sim border so that we can fit the audience in two sims instead of just one. The events listing is here.

P.S. if you want to join the in-world group for announcements, it is called “rockin to the future” and is open enrollment.

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Coming Soon: Behind our avatar is the beginnings of the Second Life jewelry exposition [link to website] — an enormous effort organized by Miriel Enfield with as many as 85 jewelry makers participating.  We were excited about what she and the community were putting together, and were more than happy to donate the space.

The event is going to run from Sept. 15th to Sept. 22nd, and will be located on the OnRez Orientation sim. More as the event unfolds!

Fashion Shows at OnRez island

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Last Saturday, Calamity Hathaway organized a fashion show at the OnRez stage in Second Life featuring clothing from Simone Stern, hair from Calla (Tigerlily Koi), and shoes from Shiny Things (Fallingwater Cellardoor).  Brace Coral did a great job as MC and I hear fun was had by all. I’m hoping for some pictures to post, but in the meantime, I took this post as an excuse to throw my own avatar at the mercy of the shopping gods and have a little fun OnRez style.

Hair: Panther Darks Pack by Calla (Tigerlily Koi)
Outfit: Shaun Suit in Green by Simone! (Simone Stern)
Shoes: Z Boot, by Shiny Things (Fallingwater Cellardoor)

Hair: Hairdizzal Brunette Pack by Bryce Designs
Outfit: 19th Hole by Simone!
Shoes: Scratch Sand/Brown by Eponymous Trenchmouth

The OnRez Stage
The lovely OnRez Stage (#3 on the map below) is available for any of our sellers to use for an event.  Please coordinate with Jade Lily if you would like to schedule a fashion show or other event at the location.
