Shop OnRez Delivery Update

Yesterday, we updated the delivery system on Shop to combat Second Life’s recent high rate of xml-rpc communication failures. Since then, deliveries have been drastically more reliable.

We have also released an optional dropbox update. Dropbox 1.1.0 gives us greater flexibility for tuning deliveries from the backend so we can adapt to changes in Second Life faster in the future.

In addition to the improved delivery system, we released an improved transaction history listing. Purchase records now indicate if the purchase was made on the web or from an in-world vendor, and the item name links back to the item’s page. The next addition is to be able to tell you which in-world vendor was used.
Happy shopping!

UPDATE:

The easiest way to update your dropbox is simply to follow these steps (there is no need to reload a blank dropbox, thankfully):

1. get the new dropbox from the website

2. drag it into world, edit it, go to the Contents tab, and pull the two scripts into your inventory

3. open up your old dropbox, go to contents tab, delete the two old dropbox scripts, and then drag the two new scripts into the dropbox (you will see that the scripts have version numbers to prevent confusion)
4. close out of edit mode and touch the dropbox

This is good news! Thanks for the hard work! I understand that delivery failure should be less frequent, but please: 1. Notify merchants by e-mail when they need to take an action because of a failed delivery. 2. Apologize by IM to the customer if delivery fails. If failures are less frequent it’s going to be even more important to notify merchants because they won’t be watching the transaction log all the time. Also, I’d really like to know _which_ vendor! Thanks again. Shop OnRez is great.

Please could you document the procedure for upgrading dropboxes. Do we simply move stuff from old to new and it’ll all be fine? Or are we going to have to re-enter product details? Can we have both running for a short while? I suggest you document this on the product page. Thanks!

Bibiten - we definitely plan on adding more in-world vendor data to our reports so you can see which vendor handled the sale. We have also updated the post to walk you through updating your existing dropboxes — it’s pretty easy.

Hi Giff. I followed your procedure exactly and my dropbox is now dead and not responding to “touch” at all, which means my shop is now dead. Please advise!

The instructions should work. We’re trying to replicate your experience and having trouble. I’ve personally now followed those instructions under two different avatars and not had a problem. We’ll continue to try to figure this out.

For the person th at is having problems they could try resetting the scripts in the box under the Tools menu. Would also make sure scripts are enabled in the sim it is in.

I reset scripts, de-rezed, re-rezed, repeated the procedure: nothing. My box stayed dead. The scripts showed that they were running when you clicked them. However, I tried “Set script to running” from the tools menu and the box started up! So if someone else has trouble this might fix it.

Stand by your dropbox as it downloads -> mine three times gave a “too many http requests too fast” message and splatted. I finally re-rezzed it and it worked the 4th time.
