Delivery Problems - being investigated

We’ve been getting reports of failed deliveries and are investigating the root of the problem, whether it is Second Life related or on our systems. Thanks for your patience and our apologies for the inconvenience.

[Update: 11/17/07 10:03pm ET] We think that the IP address changes Linden Lab made yesterday to 2,000 sims might be the root of why some dropboxes are failing in certain sims. It appears to conflicting with certain security procedures we had put in place. There may be additional problems people experienced because SL also had multiple database crashes and network problems which took 540 regions out of commission.

[Update: 11/18/07 8:46am ET] We put a fix in place last night for the IP address problem around 12:45am ET. If you are still having problems with your dropboxes, we want to know so please file a ticket through our support system so we can investigate properly.

When I try to log to the main grid the proccess falls over at the region handshake stage. A window states that the packet was never recieved by the server.

Pressing help on the window produces an error screen, that says the address is incorrect.

I tried over a period of 3 hours to log in, from midnight GMT.

Stangely SL loggin under an alt account held by a family member is possible on the same machine.

Hakase, try logging in to a different region, sometimes that helps.

    Back on topic:

[20:17] Cortech OnRez Cube 1: The dropbox was unable to contact the server. Please touch the dropbox to try again.

You are at 260075.4, 252393.4, 111.1 in Benham located at (8.4.128.150:13004)

    Hope that information helps.

Is there any way to have a duplicate dropbox rezed in different sim so that it can deliver items if the first dropbox is unavailable?

dthree, we think that it would be cumbersome to have to update multiple dropboxes. The point of having a dropbox in the first place is to centralize the process of updating your inventory, so that when you come out with a new product, you only have to update in one place. Even if you have multiple storefronts, you only need to update one central dropbox, and those changes get pushed out to all of your OnRez vendors.

Rather than creating more work for you, we think the best way to deal with communications issues is to queue up these transactions, and continue trying to execute them for a period of time. If the communication continues to fail, then we automatically refund the buyer and void that transaction. If a sim goes down while someone is trying to purchase an item that is hosted on that sim, no problem! OnRez will deliver the item when the sim comes back online. No need to trouble yourself with maintaining duplicate dropboxes.
